Adele's memorial fund was set up in February 2004 in memory of Adele Puckrin who died on 30th November 2003 aged 16 after a 2 and 1/2 year battle with a glioblastoma multiforme - an aggressive brain tumour.

We prefer to think that rather than dying of a brain tumour she lived in spite of it.

During Adele's final months, we did everything we could as a family to make Adele happy and to ensure everyones memories were happy ones, this ranged from a trip to the theatre in London to driving to whitby for an icecream.

The courageous way Adele dealt with her illness, and the way she continued to live her life and keep smiling despite the fact that she was terminally ill inspired many.

Cancer research statistics say that around 1500 children are diagnosed with cancer in the UK each year and that 7 out of 10 are successfully treated - However, despite months of gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy and the strain of seemingly endless hospital visits - this still means that 3 out of 10 or a massive 450 of these children may not survive. This pressure puts a constant strain on the whole family and is both emotionally and financially draining.

We decided - as a charity - that we would like to help families with a child or young person either currently receiving palliative care or for whom a cure is unlikely, make the most of whatever time they have left together by providing either a grant for a special treat, or an item that is needed to make life easier.

We are only a small charity and cannot afford to fund huge dreams, but the smallest memories can turn out to be the happiest.
